Violin Details

Model: Rossini - Size: 4/4

Another handmade good quality violin from a small workshop in China. This violin is very similar in appearance to the Fidelio except that the pegs and chin-rest are of good quality Ebony rather than Box wood.

The back is especially attractive being one piece of beautifully flamed Maple, The ribs and neck are of the same grade of maple. The front is nice straight close grained spruce and the whole is varnished with a very attractive semi-matt finish.

The workmanship throughout is very good and this is a much better violin than the usual Chinese made offerings.

While setting the instrument up in our workshop we fitted a set of Thomastic Dominant strings and now these have settled down the real tonal quality of the instrument is coming to the fore.

It is quite a resonant violin with excellent sustain, each string ringing well and harmonics clearly presented. The balance between strings is very even with a nice mellow G & D string a very even A string and a clear but not harsh E string.

Though we would class this violin as very responsive it's still a relatively easy instrument to play, with no obvious vices, that responds well to changes of dynamics.

Unusual for a violin in this price range the Rosiinin comes with a Pernambuco bow, rather than the usual Brazilwood. It's a nice bow, well balanced with well selected unbleached horse hair. These bows normally retail for around £200.00.

We've also supplied a Gustave Bernadel rosin, a bit more expensive but worth it for this violin and bow combination. There is also an oblong case with a light tan exterior and a deep blue interior.

This also has an external zipped pocket for music and internal pockets to hold spare strings, a rosin and a shoulder rest. It also comes with detachable straps so that the case can be carried on the back like a knapsack.

An excellent mid-range violin, similar in many ways to the Gliga range of violins and more than capable of taking a student right up to grade 8 and above.
