Well made violin from one of the better workshops in China. The front is of nicely grained Spruce and the back, ribs & neck of attractively flamed Maple. The pegs, fingerboard, chinrest and end button are of Ebony and the tailpiece is a light alloy version with integrated fine adjusters.
The varnish has a slightly reddish tinge and the edges of the plates have not been so heavily stained thus providing an attractive surround.
We have fitted an Aubert bridge and a set of Pirastro Tonica strings and after some playing in the workshop the violin is settling in and a nice tone is coming to the fore. The sound is very clean with a particularly attractive A string, as the strings bed down and the violin is played more we would expect the tone to improve and become even more mellow. It's quite a responsive violin with plenty of power when needed but still retaining it's tone when played quietly.
The bow is a good quality Brazilwood stick and has an ebony frog with a Paris Eye insert and White Mongolian Horse hair.
The case is a lightweight rectangular model with a black waterproof fabric outer and a deep red plush lining and includes space for two bows, pockets to hold rosin, spare strings and enough room for a shoulder rest. There is also a fitted hygrometer and an external zipped pocket to hold music. There are detachable straps so that the case can be carried on the back like a knapsack.
A very good intermediate student outfit that will improve as it gets more playing.
