The Eastman Strings range of violins are famous throughout the USA for sounding great and providing outstanding value for money.
The Violin is made from hand carved close grained Spruce and lightly figured Maple. The fingerboard, nut, pegs and chinrest are of good quality Ebony. The handmade quality of this violin shows as soon as you pick it up.
The case is Dart Shaped but with a proper moulded plywood core, so it is extremely strong and durable. The outer covering is very good quality black waterproof material and the inner lining a deep red plush and also features a suspension system to protect the violin in transit. There is space for two bows, back pack straps and a zipped music pocket that runs the full length of the case.
The bow is a good quality Octagonal Brazilwood stick with an Ebony frog with mother of pearl detailing and Unbleached horsehair.
We set these instruments up in our workshop and replace the cheap factory supplied strings with a new set of Thomastic Dominants.
The result is surprisingly good, the G string being particularly pleasing. The balance between strings is excellent and the instrument responds very well to all bow strokes. It's a good resonant violin with good projection. The tone is slightly dark and warm but the upper registers are clear and bright without being harsh.
All in all a very good value, quality instrument that would be suitable for all students especially those working towards the higher grades.
Customer Comments: I am very pleased with my Westbury. I love its tone from the bright bell sounding E string down through a clear A and a mellow D to the dark tone of the G. It doesn't have the cheap feel of a factory instrument and there is a joyous lack of buzzing
