Gliga Gems I - This instrument is described by Gliga as a workshop version of the Gems II. This is a violin made from superior wood, especially the flamed Maple back, and also made with a little more attention to detail. The edge work and scroll is noticeably better, as is the internal structure. The sound has the same warmth as the Gems II but is a little more smooth and more consistent from string to string. We set them up in our workshop with a set of Pirastro Violino strings and fit a light alloy tailpiece with built in adjusters, more suited to a student than the tailpiece with a single adjuster that Gliga normally supply. You can see an interesting video about Gliga Violins here The violin comes with a good quality oblong case made by Hidersine, with a black waterproof exterior cover and a well padded interior to support and protect the violin. (Please note, the stock photograph for this case is not an accurate representation - the interior is black and beige) The Bow is a good quality Brazilwood octagonal stick with an ebony frog with Paris Eye insert and unbleached Mongolian horse hair. We also supply a Hidersine 3V rosin and a yellow duster to keep everything clean. A noticeable step up from the Gliga Gems II both in price and performance. Another warm sounding quality instrument from this famous Romanian maker.
Customer Comments: The instrument has a loud but warm tone, deep in the lower registers and mellow in the upper reaches. I have spent years, trying to find a reasonably priced violin with this highly desirable sound. The Gliga 1 has it in spades.
